7 or 8 out of 10 Mr Gainsburger

Last night my brother and I went to Gainsbourg, for supper, after being dubbed as having the best burger by someone (at quite a heftyR52) . I had their special for the evening, Norwegian Salmon with herby mash and green beans, Uno had the Gainsburger…

He gave it 7 or 8 out of 10. And he knows his burgers. He still thinks Royale in Long street are the burger kings.

It appealed to me that it was a Saturday evening, so hopefully the salmon would be fresh and yes, it was almost jumping around in my plate, but my green beans, having probabley been cooked beforehand, were quite dead. The mash was good.

For dessert – we could not resist – Uno and I decided to share a cheesecake and a chocolate brownie (a la mode with ice cream and Belgian chocolate sauce). The brownie was amazing, the cheesecake had the look of spending too long a time in the fridge.

At the end we did not have enough money (R250), so my brother went back home (200m from the restaurant) and got another R50. The salmon was overpriced, I feel ashamed that we payed R100 for it, I did not realise the price when I ordered and ate it. Maybe it is the season, but gosh, are we starting to pay the rent of a flat on good food?

Hmm, Burgers. I have yet to “learn to cook” properly, actually. I’ve made hamburgers, well, with my “making” including “selecting and buying patties”. I think I should visit some of the recommended places, e.g. Royale, and try to pick up some tips. (Well, other than what a really good patty should taste like. Though I should shop around some more and decide which “prefab” patties are most to my liking.)

I’m hoping I’ll find some inspiration on your blog, making me realise how “straight forward” it can be to make some nice foods… (Though, I’m still at the very basics, e.g. “how to make a really good omelet”. – Hey, I’ve made an omelet about twice, maybe three times, but I’m still working on getting the quantities right. Yea, I’m a hopeless case, but I’m getting there!)

Hugo!

You absolutely right! The prominent reaction of people who say thay cannot cook – say: “I can’t even cook an egg!”

Where better a place to start!!
Hey! Thanks!

About the burgers – I want to show you a surprise – coming up in the next few days!

Later

Hehe, staple diet when I’m training hard… always have cooked eggs in the fridge. Easy enough. So there is hope for me yet! (Tabouli looks easy enough for me… all I need to do is set aside some time. Scarce resource…)

You go girl, Jade! For a sixteen year old, your analytical, yet immensley readable comments impress. I agree, the salmon is overpriced in the extreme and the dead vegetables a trademark. I will not miss your blog before I go out to eat again!
